Scope of activity

The scope of activity Department-Laboratory of Fire Alarm Systems and Fire Automation includes variety of issues connected with fire detection, activating fire alarm devices and fire alarm systems and alarm signals transmission.


Main tasks are:

  • research in the field of fire detection techniques,
  • examining prototypes of fire signaling devices in order to eliminate incorrect working,
  • conducting research concerning new techniques and technologies regarding fire detection, controlling fire alarm devices, alarm signals transmission systems,
  • commissioned tests of components and whole fire detection systems, voice alarm systems, fire extinguishing devices control systems, smoke removal devices control systems and others,
  • examining electromagnetic compatibility, climatic and mechanical tests of devices not connected with fire protection in accordance with requirements of a client,
  • giving an opinion on standards and participation in fire protection standardization processes;
  • disseminating and popularizing research achievements in the field of content-related activities of the Department, organizing courses and trainings for designers and employees installing fire alarm systems and voice alarm systems. Our Department gives commissioned lectures on issues connected with fire automation,
  • assessing (evaluating) execution correctness of technical projects in the field of fire alarm systems, voice alarm systems, fire extinguishing control systems, smoke removal devices control systems,
  • making evaluations regarding correctness of choice and placing detectors in an object on the basis of executed tests supported by specialist measurement equipment,
  • analyzing and verifying projects concerning voice alarm systems,
  • making computer simulations of acoustic properties of rooms,
  • measuring understanding of speech STI-PA, according to: STI, RASTI or CIS, in accordance with standards: IEC 60268-16, and EN 60849 for voice alarm systems inside an object, measurement of time of echo (reverberation) and level of sound,
  • examining resistance to influence of electromagnetic fields to scope of 4GHz, with intensity of field ranging to 50V/m.

  • smoke-detection equipment for ducts,
  • components using radio links,
  • audible alarm devices,
  • multi-sensor fire detectors,
  • and others.
